This course will cover Western treatment modalities for the treatment of acupuncture, do a compare and contrast of acupuncture/oriental medicine (eastern medicine) and western medicine results, and discuss current research pertaining to the two subjects on their effectiveness in alleviating pain from sciatica. Topics such as physical therapy, trans-electric nerve stimulation, surgery options and procedures, pros/cons of each type of surgery, such as micro-discectomy, discectomy, laminectomy, and many others. This class also discusses the narcotics for pain management and the risk factors for their usage. Recent research is also discussed on the effectiveness in treating sciatica with western medicine.
